E-mail Account Assignment

All new Appalachian State University employees are assigned an e-mail account after the required paperwork has been submitted and processed in their appropriate unit (e.g., Academic Affairs, Human Resource Services or Graduate School). New employees can view their e-mail username using the "Search the Directory" option under Search option from the Appalachian State University home page. New employees may contact Technical Support at 262-6266 for assistance with their e-mail account.  An email account should be established within three days after all required employment materials have been submitted.

Before logging in for the first time, new employees should first use the Password Change Form to ensure that all passwords are synched properly. (Alternatively, the form is found by selecting the "Faculty & Staff" link on the ASU Home page and then selecting the "Change or Reset your PASSWORD" option.) On the Password Change Form, employees should enter their ASU username and "Validate Information." Next, choose Method 2, which asks for the 9 digit ID number and date of birth. Employees can check their e-mail through appmail or AppalNET.

Web Access for Instructional Faculty

Faculty ID Number Assignment

After an e-mail account is set up, Instructional Faculty are automatically assigned a unique faculty ID number. This ID allows faculty to use AppalNET/Web For Faculty to access access class lists, final grading, advising, etc.  Departmental and Registrar's Office personnel use this number to identify the faculty member throughout the Student Information System and Faculty Management (1FM) screens. In addition, it is used by Institutional Research in Enrollment Reporting to UNC General Administration. New employees or departmental personnel can contact Technical Support at 262-6266 if a faculty ID has not been set up. Detailed information is available online.

Linking Faculty to Their Classes

After the Faculty ID has been assigned, departmental personnel must assign the faculty member to the classes using the unique ID number, by first finding the Faculty ID on SIS screen 1F3. Information about linking the faculty member to his/her classes is available online. Departmental personnel may contact the Registrar's Office Service Area at 262-6818 for assistance with faculty/course assignments.

Access to the Student Information System

Initial access to the Student Information System is requested by the department chair or supervisor through the University's Electronic Forms option and following the steps under "Requesting SIS Access."

If an employee changes positions or duties, updates to SIS access can be requested by contacting Toni Becvinovski by e-mail or by phone at 262-7210.
