Returning Student Procedures

When a student indicates that he/she is returning to Appalachian the following is a guideline to insure that the student is readmitted properly

  • Obtain student name (verify full name-- date of birth, if needed)
  • Check Screen 1E1 on SIS for last term attended, last term status and "Exit Action" (see Exit Action Codes below).
  • If returning in same program as last term of attendance -- What Term?
    If Fall or Spring:
    • Undergraduate Students - send to appropriate Dean's Office for advising.  Student will need to complete Data Sheet.
    • Graduate or Non-Degree Students - send to Registrar's Office (Records Area).  Student will need to complete Data Sheet If Summer - send to Registrar's Office (Records Area).  Student must complete Data Sheet .  NOTE:  Special Program Data Sheets (e.g. IDEA, Adult Basic Skills, Kellogg Institute, etc.) should be sent to Tena Miller in the Registration Center.
  • If returning in different program
    • Degree Seeking changing to Non-Degree Status - Student will need to complete a Data Sheet
      • If previous Undergraduate terms on 1E1 or if undergraduate degree from ASU posted on Screen 123 - send to Registrar's Office (Records Area)
      • Attended as Graduate Student Only (Check Screen 123--Degrees Awarded--to insure student did not receive undergraduate degree from ASU) - send to Undergraduate Admissions.
    • Non-degree changing to degree seeking - Make application to appropriate Admissions Office.
    • Graduate terms on 1E1 with "Exit Action" = AW (Admission Withdrawal).  The student will complete a Data Sheet to be activated by the appropriate office.
  • If student graduated -- Student will need to complete Data Sheet to be activated in a new status
    • Returning for 2nd Undergraduate Degree - send to appropriate Dean's Office.
    • Returning as Non-Degree Student
      • Previous Undergraduate terms on Screen 1E1 or if undergraduate degree from ASU posted on Screen 123 - send to Registrar's Office (Records)
      • Attended as Graduate Student only (Check Screen 123--Degrees Awarded--to insure student did not receive undergraduate degree from ASU)  - send to Undergraduate Admissions
      • Initial Teacher Licensure - Student will need to contact College of Education.  Rules in c.ii. above apply.
      • Applying to Graduate School - Refer student to Graduate Admissions Office (Ext. 2131)

Exit Action Codes
Blank (none)
AW = Admission Withdrawal
GD = Graduated
NR = Non-Returning
WD = Withdrew
