Candidates for graduation should arrive at the Holmes Convocation Center one hour prior to the start of their graduation ceremony. Enter the Holmes Center through the ticket box entrance on the lower level. Contact tables, sorted by last name, will be staffed by members of the Registrar’s Office. Candidates will pick up their pre-printed name cards at this location. Just before walking across the stage, the candidate will hand the card to the ceremony name reader. These cards will be used by the official commencement photographer, Grad Images, to expedite mailing of photograph proofs taken during the ceremony.

* Hayes School of Music candidates should arrive one hour prior to the start of their graduation ceremony. Students will meet in room 119 (Spencer Rehearsal Hall).

Faculty Staging Information

The staging area for faculty will be in rooms’ 13A - 13C.  These rooms can be accessed through the lower level on the northwest side of the Holmes Convocation Center.  Follow the directional signs at the main entrance of the building, located on Hill Street.  Please arrive no less than 30 minutes before the start time for the ceremony. 

The order of the processional is the University Mace, the platform party, Banners, Faculty and Candidates for graduation.  The faculty will process in two columns led by student marshals. 

The faculty will recess to rooms’ 13A - 13C and surrounding hallways prior to the student’s recession to the concourse area.  The order of the recessional is the platform party, faculty marshals, faculty, and students. 

The Rivers Street parking deck will be open for event parking. Shuttle buses will be running routes between the traffic circle in the Raley parking lot, The Grand Hall entrance at the Broyhill Inn and the Holmes Center before and after each event.  A shuttle will be available between the Hill Street lot and the Holmes Center. The parking lots at the Convocation Center and the John Thomas Building are reserved for special guests and disabled persons only.

Ceremony Accommodations

Interpreters will be provided during most ceremonies and projected on a screen. Interpreters will not be signing individual names for all graduating students. Please contact the Office of Disability Services for a request of an interpreter at a specific ceremony, an individual name to be signed or other accommodation request by TBA.
